This publication examines 10 years of the artist’s career: the period between 1990 and 1999, during which she adapted her own visual code by means of recreating dream like environments, sometimes with a maritime quality. These serve as settings for the symbolic elements around a methaphorically-charged theme concerned with feminine traits, eroticism, fertility and anxiety, all of which contrast with a mystical and spiritual significance. In her juxtapositions of symbols and elements with their opposites, Roxana also exploits the artistic possibilities of contradiction and paradox. Their duality-with their depiction of contradictions, parallels and double-standards inherent in our societies- reflects one of the most important characteristics of Latin American art.
